Land Cover Analysis

During the past decade, our region has undergone significant geographical changes resulting from population shifts and mass devastation wrought by Hurricanes Ivan, Katrina, and Rita.   In order to provide citizens and decision makers with a visual of these land cover changes, CURIS created land cover maps for years 1996, 2001, 2005 and 2006* and later conducted a land cover analysis of each county/parish in our region.  The maps for our focus area consist of data from the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA) C-CAP Dataset that have been reclassified to fit the needs of the counties/parishes in our focus area.

The analysis consists of the 1996, 2001, 2005, and 2006* land cover maps, a land cover change table, land cover change maps, and demographical information.  CURIS conducted the analysis to allow decision makers to be able to visualize land cover changes, in both map and number form, that have already taken place in their communities, and how they may or may not need to adjust zoning ordinances and other building codes for future development.
